It's been a long and hectic week. On the baby front, we started touring day care centers and doctor offices for Rowan's arrival. We also had our first baby class at Dupont Hospital to prepare for her delivery. My office is throwing the first baby shower today for Brooke at Casa Restaurante! and on tomorrow Brooke's friends Tera and Concepcion are throwing one as well. Brooke (and Rowan) are quite excited! I am too...
On Tuesday this week, we had no power at the FirstFlash office. Nice to have an extra day off, but not good for business! I played golf on that Tuesday afternoon with my good friend Mike Berles. I think I warmed him up a little bit cause on Wednesday he had his first hole-in-one! I've been told that it was an 4 wood from 131 yards on the #17 par three at LaFontaine Golf Course in Huntington, IN. Just kidding, I think he used an 8 iron. Congratulation to Berles, the lucky bastard!
Tuesday was a very busy day for the Mettler family as well. Jeff, April, Jackson, and Lillie welcomed Samuel Metea Mettler into the fold on Tuesday night. Mom and baby are doing great and already back home. Congratulations to the Mettlers! We have two more months until our expected date, August 14th.
Last but not least...Happy Birthdays on Saturday to Simon in the UK, Steve in Middlebury, and my nieces in Houston! Hope you all have great birthdays and everyone else enjoy your Flag Day on Saturday and Father's Day on Sunday!
On to the reads from this week...
This week's News Quiz. Don't forget to put your results in the comments section. [Chicago Tribune]
The kinds of damage the storms, rains, flooding have done to the MidWest is incredible. A lake was lost in Wisconsin when it broke the levee and disappeared in the the Wisconsin River! We've had storms in Fort Wayne, but the flooding has not been much around here. And we know all about flooding in The Fort. These storms could also affect farmers ability to reach higher crop yields. You've seen on this blog articles expressing concern for world food supplies. [Chicago Tribune]
After losing out on the Microsoft buyout, Yahoo is turning to Google for help. Maybe they can buy up the web site hosting business, cause SpydeysWebb.com is run on Yahoo, but everything else on there is Google (blog, pictures).
A couple of interesting animal stories. Swimming with sharks? You can do it at the Georgia Aquarium. Also in Atlanta, the zoo there is expecting a new elephant, but not very soon. The gestation period for elephants is 22 months! The new baby will come sometime in spring of 2009. Pretty cool photo gallery. [Atlanta Journal Constitution]
Apple unveiled it's new iPhone this week. You may know that Brooke and I got iPhones last August for the full price. As for the new price on this faster iPhone, you need to read the small print. The data package goes up, so over the length of your contract, you'd be paying more. They're expecting the lower price to get more people in the door. We wouldn't change a thing though. We love them. [San Jose Mercury News & NY Times]
Travis, Budweiser might be for sale! And the new owner may be Belgian. [NY Times]
Scheduling movies in Hollywood, you need a degree to figure this stuff out. As for this weekend, The Incredible Hulk is the major release. I think I'll be seeing this with my brother-in-law at some point this weekend. Saw a preview this week that had Tony Stark making a cameo, pretty cool. Did I mention you need to see Iron Man? The Happening looks freaking terrible. No thanks. [LA Times & IMDb.com]
Dogs of Summer. Oscar Meyer is changing it's formula for their dogs to compete for your summer grill. [Chicago Tribune]
