Wrigley Bound Tomorrow - Friday May 14th

The packing continues at Beaverbook. We're surrounded by empty and full boxes of stuff in about every room. Less than two weeks to go until we must vacate the premises. Rowan was enjoying breakfast this week with her Learning Apple, yogurt, milk, and her new favorite: chocolate Cheerios.

Poppa Day at Wrigley tomorrow for Cubs/Pirates. This will be our second annual trip with Rowan's poppas (my dad and Brooke's dad). Last year the Cubbies blew a 9th inning lead but won it in the bottom half of the inning. I'd like another win with less drama. Looks like it will be about 10 degrees warmer this year. It was freezing last year! Hope to have photos up next week of the adventure. [Baseball Reference]

D-Day 20 was on Wednesday. It's been 20 years since I discovered I had diabetes mellitus type 1. Let's just say this past Wednesday was a much better day than May 12th, 1990! Onward...

Saw Iron Man 2 last Friday with Travis and his girlfriend. We really enjoyed it and highly recommend seeing it in the theaters. There could have been more action, but they did a good job with a funny script and it moved along nicely for a 2 hour movie. Robin Hood starts tonight and it looks like a good one too. Russell Crowe does good stuff, so that might be in the queue if we weren't busy packing boxes. [IMDb.com]

The 2010-2011 TV schedules are going to be released next week by the Big 4 broadcast companies. One show surprisingly NOT coming back: Law & Order for it's 21st season. It will remain tied with Gunsmoke for the longest running drama in TV history. [NY Times & Wikipedia]

Urban wildlife is becoming more and more prevalent. Here's a story about Chicago's efforts to study and understand it. Plan on seeing our fair share of wildlife at the new house. [Chicago Tribune]

Website of the Week is back for Murals Your Way. An interesting take on 'wallpaper'.

Have a great weekend!

Friday February 26th

Another rough week for Rowan! This winter has been a tough one in her getting sick, and she had a doozy this week. As of tonight, she's doing much better and we can only hope this is the last one for the season. That's her enjoying dinner with Nana and Poppa tonight at Casa Grande. She had a great day visiting with them. It'd been a while since her last Poppa visit.

Olympics are almost done and it's been a good one for the USA. We're still enjoying the festivities and staying up too late most nights. They sure pack it in for the two weeks. NBC gets middling grades from me for their coverage. I think if there's an event that's going on right now, as in live, then put it on TV! Tape delay just doesn't work in the land of Twitter and instantaneous coverage via Internet or mobile phone. They should have carried the US/Canada hockey game on the main channel Sunday instead of MSNBC. Great game but not in HD. I think there'll be a rematch this Sunday afternoon for the gold medal, and of course NBC will carry that. [NPR Blog]

News Quiz and more after the jump...

Friday November 20th

Rowan's fifteen months old this week. She's becoming quite the busy body around the house as well. Butsu turned 5 years old this week too. Another family birthday this week: Happy Birthday Aunt Sharon in Texas!

Bucket Game this weekend in Bloomington. Brook and I will be in our seats one last time this season. Hope they can salvage the end of it cause it's been a tough stretch for the last two months. Both teams are playing for pride as well as the Old Oaken Bucket. Each team was eliminated from bowl consideration last week. [Bleacher Report]

Indiana basketball got off to an impressive start last Friday with Brooke and I in attendance (that's Brooke on the floor below with The Banners in the background). Nice margin of victory vs. the over matched Howard Bison. A much closer game was had on Monday vs. South Carolina - Upstate...then last night they were pretty much dominated by Ole Miss in Puerto Rico. Let's hope the next two games there fare a bit better...and more competitive.

New movie opening last night...Twilight: New Moon, you might have heard about it? So are you for Edward or Jacob? Or do you really care? Brooke read the four books and I think she's in the Edward camp...[LA Times]

Network TV's winners and losers so far this season. We haven't been keeping up well lately, our DVR is about to bust. [LA Times]

We're off...soon!

Vacation feels like it's here already...maybe because packing starts tonight for departure tomorrow. Washington DC, then Myrtle Beach, SC to see Shiloh, then the Great Smokey Mountains to break up the drive home. Rowan's going to dip her feet in the Atlantic Ocean for the first time! I'm hoping to have blog updates on our adventures throughout the weekend and week coming up. You're inbox may get a bit full if you're on the subscriber list.

We finally saw Transformers last weekend. We both enjoyed it and my review is up on the main page. Also got some new movies listed in the Webb there, any of them that may interest you? [SpydeysWebb.com]

No news quiz this week...take a breather.

Sesame Street is 40 years old this week. Can't wait to discover this amazing series again with Rowan. Take a look a the many Muppets on the series. How many do you know or remember? [National Post]

New toy that helps you to become a Jedi Knight! [New Scientist]

Sad week in Chihuahua news...the Taco Bell dog passed away. [People]

How do you like your pizza: square or slice? I'm a square man, myself. [Chicago Tribune]

More awards for Christian's architecture firm. Check out the Brave/Praxis blog.

I've been studying up on DC lately. Check out where we'll be, in particular all over The Mall and East End areas. [WikiTravel]

Friday June 12th

Rowan says, "peas, please!" We've had a great week with Rowan. As you saw in the last post, she's clapping and crawling and soon will be getting into things. It's awesome. She's also getting her own little personality, and I see a bit of myself in it. Hopefully, she can have a bit more patience than the old man. She can get that from mom.

Some Happy Birthdays this Sunday. To my nieces in Texas, Grace and Ella celebrating their 3rd, my buddy Steve Lyng celebrating his 39th (!!!), and my good friend Simon Cook in the UK with his, what? 36th, I think. Oh yeah, and a Happy Flag Day to everyone else.

Saw The Hangover this week and the review is posted on the main page. I liked it, Brooke was more of a meh on it. As I predicted a few weeks ago, it trounced Land of the Lost, which finish 3rd for the week and will be on DVD by August 1 I think. Next big flick, if we don't see Up soon, is the new Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen. Need to avoid the extra trailers and sneak peeks on that. I want to be surprised for some of these movie! [IMDb.com & LA Times]

Well they unveiled the new iPhone 3G S on Monday. Video comes to the iPhone, a nice one too. It's as good as the one on my camera. The updated lens gives it a pretty sweet camera on there too. Biggest problem with the new iPhone? You're still stuck with AT&T service! If we are to upgrade ours, I think it will be after Apple allows other carriers to get in on the iPhone business. Then, we'll move on too, maybe...it is a pretty sweet upgrade I think. Time to move on over Christian! [Chicago Tribune]

This week's News Quiz. A workable 70% for me this week, how'd you do? [Chicago Tribune]

This week's new Pop Culture quiz. A bit tougher as my 50% showed. [Chicago Tribune]

One more...even harder than the previous two: Wine Quiz. [Chicago Tribune]

Medical beliefs and others busted by the IU School of Medicine. For instance, the 5 second rule or swallowing gum or heat loss through the head. [IU News Room]

Good news for asthma sufferers...it's caffeine! [IU News Room]

Architecture article for everyone, but mostly Christian. The Chicago Architecture Foundation is building a scale model of downtown Chicago. The pic in the article is worth a click. [Chicago Tribune]

Website of the Week: Found one on a list of sites you should be wasting time on. This is interesting to say the least: My Milk Toof.

Another of the many faces of Rowan.

Have a great weekend!
