Summertime...

Waiting for fun at Disney World
The weather is going to take that turn into real summer this weekend. Both days are expected to be in the 90's with humidity building throughout the day. Joy! Not really, I don't care for days in the 90's where you can't even sit outside and I need to yank some stumps out of the ground too. Only good part of this is no mowing this weekend.

Fort Wayne's Three Rivers Festival kicks off this weekend and runs through next weekend. Should be able to hit Junk Food Alley at some point. We'll miss the parade tomorrow after actually making it last year. Bob Marley Tribute band tonight at the beer tent, that could be interesting. [3RF.com]

Tonight, Brooke and I will be heading to Fortissimo with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Two local bands and another indie group will be playing with The Phil in a one of a kind event. This should be very cool and we're looking forward to it. [The Phil & Journal Gazette]

This week's News Quiz. [Chicago Tribune]

Nebraska joined the Big Ten last week as the 12th member school. Here was a recap of the Big Ten for the Huskers, I thought it was a pretty cool rundown of the league. [Husker Extra]

Neat Op-Ed column about super powers, X-Men, and history. [New York Times]

One of my all time favorite Hoosiers, Calbert Cheaney, is back in the fold. He and I were classmates at IU. [USA Today]

Google launched a new social media site this week with a limited release. One of the first to join up was Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook. Probably just checking out the potential competition. [New York Times]

Hope you all checked out the massive picture update I did last weekend. Lots of great photos of our trip to Walt Disney World. We had a very good time!

Ziver Beaver (aka Ziva) chilling out
Stay cool this weekend!

Friday August 7th

The Friday blog is back. We had a great vacation last week. Hope you got a look at the Picasa albums page and YouTube video I made. We did close to 2,100 miles and visited 8 states and the District of Columbia. Rowan has now been to 12 states + DC, and she's only 11 months old! She was a champ in the car. We had travel times of 9, 7.5, 6, and 8 hours. A great time was had by all! Of course, Muki and Butsu really missed us and we were happy to be back home on Sunday.

Tomorrow is the Family Centered Services Duck Race in Bluffton. Hope everyone picked up their Quack Sacks from Grandma Brenda or Brooke. I also hope your ducks do well with this list of prizes, but not as well as Rowan's for the $1K grand prize! Grandma Brenda is quoted in that attached blog article. [Family Centered Services & Bluffton blog]

No movies this week, but Berles says he's in for the GI Joe flick. So we'll probably get out to that one soon, it opens today. The trailers for Julie & Julia have me thinking it may be pretty good. Critics seem to be up on the latter and down big on the former. No surprise there. John Hughes passed away this week. He made a lot of the movies I grew up with as a teenager...many, many classics. [IMDb.com & Rotten Tomatoes & TVGuide.com]

NFL training camps opened last week, so fantasy season must be right around the corner. Don't have my team name yet...draft is in 4 weeks. Here's a good article on the newest Washington Redskin, Jeremy Jarmon. [Washington Post]

This week's News Quiz is back. I aced it, so it's easy. Right? [Chicago Tribune]

Now this is how you crash a party. The party being the Pittsburgh Penguins post Stanley Cup win party! [Dayton Daily News]

Going to be hot and muggy this weekend. Summer makes a visit. Golf could be sticky on Sunday...

Friday May 1st

Happy May Day! Rowan getting a little belly time in this week with dad. She's not crawling yet, but we're working on it! [Wikipedia]

Very happy with the Redskins first round pick last Saturday. Maybe my bro-in-law Ryan will become a Redskin fan, as they picked former Texas Longhorn DE Brian Orakpo with the 13th pick overall. The other 4 picks were pretty blah, but this one was the right one. He and Haynesworth on the defensive frontline will cause some havoc next season. Already looking forward to it. [Sporting News]

It's Wolverine Friday, and I think we'll be going next week. It's getting questionable reviews, but sounds like most are comparing it to the Spider-Man and Batman movies, which are classics. I think this will be standard comic book movie fare. I'm looking forward to it. [IMDb.com]

This week's News Quiz. I jammed it out this week with solid 100%. How'd you do? [Chicago Tribune]

A fictionalized version of Barack Obama's Facebook page after 100 days. [Slate]

Following Tom Crean on Twitter, and he's getting lots of publicity for his use of the service. [Indy Star]

Lots of coaches and teams are using Twitter. LSU coach Les Miles says he's going to Twitter during games next season. [USA Today]

Apple considers Twitter a triumph of humanity! That could be because the Twitter offices use Macs, exclusively. [Apple.com]

The Dead, remnants of the Grateful Dead after Jerry's passing, are on tour this summer, again. [NY Times]

Website of the week: This one, how cute is that kid!?!

"You lookin' at my Cheerios!?!"

Have a great weekend...
