How's your Summer going? - Friday July 16th

It's been a while since my last update. There's lots of things going on at the new house which has been keeping us busy. I should have a picture update this weekend with the finished barn and stalls. Brooke and her dad are working on that project right now. Brooke's cousins Sydney and Mike are up from Florida to spend the weekend on the farm. Plenty to do!

That's Rowan in her new pool and swimming suit on the front lawn last weekend. She really likes pouring water over her head in the pool. Water Day at daycare is quite an adventure with this little girl! The video at the bottom is Rowan biking around the driveway on her tricycle. She's getting pretty good at it!

Lots of linkage for this post, since it's been so long...

This week's News Quiz...is back! [Chicago Tribune]

It's been a few weeks ago, but the 30th anniversary of the Blues Brothers was this year. [Chicago Tribune]

This is a long one, so make sure you bookmark to finish, but there's a super computer that plays Jeopardy! And it's pretty good at it. Of course, it's an IBM. [NY Times]

I posted on this a while back, but the post office near Wrigley will be named after Steve Goodman. He's the singer/songwriter that wrote the "Go, Cubs, Go" song they sing after wins (which have been few and far between this year). [Chicago Tribune]

Crazy stuff about sunscreens lately. The FDA does not regulate them, so the SPF numbers above 50 are not really that accurate. Now this report about cancer and sunscreens. Whatever you do, be careful in the sun! [AOL]

Hopefully this cup recycle program for Starbucks will go nationwide. So far, it's in Seattle and Chicago. [Chicago Tribune]

Uncle Depune is looking out for us! Sent me this Indiana speed trap link a few weeks back. If you got hit recently, I should have posted this earlier! [SpeedTrap.org]

Stay cool this weekend! I'll be out mowing the front 4 acres. Enjoy Rowan on her bike...

December Picture Update

Time for a December picture update!

From my birthday to Christmas, there's a lot to see!

As always, it's on my Picasa album page.

Below is a video I took of Rowan and Uncle Christian during our Christmas festivities. For my email subscribers, if you want to see the video you need to CLICK HERE.

Friday November 13th

With the Friday updates, we seem to run into this quite a bit, don't we? It's the 3rd one we've had this year! [Examiner]

Rowan had a great time at the IU football game last week. It's so nice to be innocent and not care who wins and loses! The picture at the top is in preparations for the day and the one at the bottom is her and mom enjoying kettle corn in the concourse area of Memorial Stadium. One more game this season and it's the Bucket Game next Saturday. [Wikipedia]

IU's basketball season officially tips off tonight in Bloomington vs. Howard University. Brooke and I are making the trip for opening night very shortly. We're favored by quite a bit in this one, so it should be fun to see. Might be another long season this year, but it has to be better than last year! Still have the two tickets to each game, so if anyone wants to see a game let me know. [Howard Bison homepage]

Fall movies are kicking into high gear this weekend. Several wide releases that are good for action or drama. Two in particular are the back home from war drama The Messenger (90% fresh) and the Earth going down in flames 2012 (36% fresh). I've been reading lots of reviews on 2012 (review 1 and review 2) and it sounds like what you'd expect from the guy who did Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. The Earth is destroyed over 3 hours, which seems a bit long to me. The Messenger sounds like a timely drama about soldiers that tell next of kin that their loved one has died in the war overseas. Solid actors Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster play the lead roles. Pirate Radio (56% fresh) also sounds like an entertaining flick, it starts this week as well. [Miami Herald & Chicago Tribune & NY Times & Rotten Tomatoes & IMDb.com]

For Veteran's Day this week, I found a great collection of videos showing dogs welcoming their owners home from war. Good stuff. [Mental Floss]

Enjoy another warm weekend!

Friday October 23rd

Well last weekend didn't go exactly to plan. Friday night I hit Hoosier Hysteria with Uncle Dave and we had a great time. Saturday morning, Rowan woke up with what we found out was The Croup. Weekend plan changes! Back home on Saturday night, which was bad and Sunday wasn't much better. She got a few scrips to help out and is back toddling around like normal. [Wikipedia]

Being at home all week gave her the opportunity to practice her walking and she's pretty good now. Time to start working on her basketball skills!

IU basketball team looks bigger, faster, and stronger for this upcoming season. The new freshman coming in are going to help both in practice and game time. Can't wait. [IUHoosiers.com & ESPN]

This week's News Quiz and Pop Culture Quiz. Got lucky on my guesses for the pop quiz this week...how'd you do? [Chicago Tribune]

IU at the forefront of a new super computer network. [IU News Room]

Have you seen the new Apple mouse, Magic Mouse? Wow, that is pretty cool! [NY Times & Apple.com]

Website of the week: The Good Guide. Helps to find what's good for you in food and other products. Linked is their "What's In Your Kid's Food" quiz. It's a pretty easy quiz, so when you're done browse the site for a bit. There's some really great info on there.

New video of Rowan taking a stroll in the back yard...

Have a great weekend!

JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes

The Sheridan family participated in the JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes last week at Franke Park here in Fort Wayne. It was a typical fall day in Indiana, which meant a little chilly, sprinkle of rain, and some wind.

And we had a great time! Team Sheridan consists of Team Captain Brooke Sheridan and team members Seth Sheridan and Jeanne Sheridan. Combined we've raised almost $1,000 to JDRF's search for a cure. You can only imagine how this makes me feel!

Donating is not done just because the walk is! We're raising money for the cure until October 30th. If you've already donated, thank you so much! If you haven't and would like to, go to the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes page and search for me or Brooke. Our walker pages will have all the information you need to make a donation to either of us. If you have any questions, just ask!

Being me, I took a few photos of our walk and made a video of it. You can see the photos on my Picasa page under the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes album. The video is linked to SpydeysWebb YouTube and below for your viewing pleasure.

With your help we can find a cure for the Big D, and that would be a pretty cool thing to do.

Summer Vacation!

Finally got our vacation photos up on Picasa. They're in their own folder called Summer Vacation 2009, over 115 photos of our trip to Washington, DC; Myrtle Beach, SC; the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and Gatlinburg, TN.

You can see them here on Picasa.

I also made a video montage of Rowan traveling, exploring, and touring Washington, DC. Even added text and music! The video is below and best viewed from my YouTube channel. In order for email subscribers to see the video, they need to go directly there or the blog by clicking HERE.

July picture update...

Got a nice 60 photo update on my Picasa page last night. Mostly of Rowan, if you can imagine that!

13 new ones in the June album and 47 in the July album.

She's really crawling around now. No sitting still for this one anymore. She likes to work the legs on the stairs at home as the video below shows. If you get this via email, you need to go to the blog directly to see the video. Click the blog post title at the top and you'll be taken there for video viewing!

Mid June Picture Update

Got photos from the last few weeks in June up on the Picasa site. This includes a visit from the Godfather, a day on the lake, hanging at the cabin and seeing some friends.

I think the total was over 50 new photos. They're in the June album.

Here's a cool video of Rowan captaining the boat on the way back to shore. If you're viewing from the email subscriptions, you'll need to hit the real blog on the web to see this video. Just click the title of the blog post, Mid June Picture Update at the top.

June picture update

Got new pictures up on Picasa from May and then some from the beginning of June. Included in these are Rowan's first two TinCap games and Poppa Sheridan's birthday cake!

May photos are here.
June photos are here.

Also, check out a new video below of Rowan clapping and crawling. It's pretty good if I do say so myself! Remember email subscribers, you'll need to click on the post title (June picture update) and go directly to the blog in order to see the video!

Friday May 8th

For my email subscribers, I suggest clicking on the post title to read this post on the web site directly. Email's fun, but checking out the Blog on the web is better!

First off, Happy Mother's Day to all my mother readers. This is Brooke's first one and we're quite excited little Ro's here with us. This weekend is garage sale time again (remember last year?), Yippee! When I was home for lunch today, Brooke was already at $66. Not bad since we did about $95 total last year. That's Rowan in the front yard getting her crawl on. If you're in the area, stop on by and check the neighborhood sales out. [SpydeysWebblog]

Movie night was last night, and Wolverine was great! Review is up on the main page. I don't know how critics are getting this movie so wrong. This guy agrees with me on that (Depune link). Also got a review from Travis' daughter Shelby for the new Hannah Montana movie. I'll take reviews for any new theater movie! Just email them over if you've seen something that we haven't. [SpydeysWebb & Rotten Tomatoes & Big Hollywood]

Getting great reviews is our next flick the new Star Trek movie, probably Thursday night. If you'd like to join in, let me know. You can prepare with this really hard Star Trek quiz. The new Transformers movie (check out that new trailer!) will have lots of new robots kicking some serious can. Next summer I'm looking forward to the second Iron Man installment. You can get great Iron Man set updates on Twitter from the director Jon Favreau. [Rotten Tomatoes & IMDb.com & Chicago Tribune & IMDb.com & Empire & USA Today & Twitter]

Remember the Apple article from last week re: Twitter? Well it looks like Twitter may be a part of Apple soon...Apple is interested in augmenting their web foothold. [Gawker]

One more week till Grandpas' Cubbie game with Rowan! The countdown clock is on the web, another advantage of reading this post on the website. The Cubs have an interesting player on the bench this week, a 31 year old rookie who spent minor league time in Fort Wayne. [ESPN.com]

This week's News Quiz. It seemed hard when I was taking it, but I ended up doing pretty well. How'd you do? [Chicago Tribune]

The IU golf team's had a pretty good season. They picked up the #2 seed in their NCAA Regional for next week's tournament. [IU Hoosiers]

Seen the awesome new Heineken commercial? That's a blast from the past song that's used very well. [The Critical Condition]

That's no UFO in the sky. [Chicago Tribune]

Here's a site to see how popular your name is, now and historically. [Baby Name Wizard]

How to make a time lapse video. I'd like to see Christian give this a try. Here's a really cool one. [The Adventure Life]

Website of the Week: The National Tailgating League. Why didn't I think of this!

Grandpa and Grandma in Costa Rica. Looks nice!

Come on by the Garage Sale this weekend!

Rowan's ready for opening day

Massive picture update for this weekend! We had a great time at cousin Gus' birthday on Saturday and took lots of great photos of Gus and Rowan playing and having fun. Those pictures will be on the April 2009 album on the Picasa site. I also added some photos to the March 2009 album from the end of that month.

The square game has made some money for our fathers! My dad won an Elite Eight game and Brooke's dad took one of the Final Four games last night. I told you two you'd like this game! Grand Prize will be won with tomorrow's final between Michigan State and North Carolina. MSU's win on Saturday netted me a bracket pool that a buddy of mine runs. I can't win mine, but the same three brackets will win money in my pool. Only thing left to decide for each is how much.

Cubs start the season tomorrow and Rowan is ready!

Added another video of her playing with birthday balloon. She loves balloons.

Overdue Picture Update

I find it hard to believe that I didn't make one picture update in February. So I took care of that this evening by adding 41 new photos to the February 2009 album on Picasa. Most are very random photos of Rowan as she grows.

Like I said in previous posts, she's now rolling over on her own. She's been sitting up by herself for a few weeks. Now we start watching for more and more mobility! Good times.

Below is a video of cousin Harrison playing with Rowan from a few weeks ago. He really got her giggling up a storm. She loves to giggle! Enjoy.

Rowan Picture and Video update

Got pictures up from our trip to Texas for my cousin Simon's wedding, others from the last two weeks of Rowan, and some of Jedaiah's run to the 160 pound championship at the SAC wrestling tournament last Saturday.

Check out the Picasa site for the January update. I think there's 60 new pics or so.

Here's a video of Rowan trying out carrots last week. She warmed up to them, but the first time she really didn't like them! We've moved on to peas this week. Remember the email won't have the video, just click the title of the post and it'll take you to the site to see the video. It's a good one.

Back from the Holidays

Back to the grind tomorrow, but we and Rowan have had a great start to the new year. We spent a long three days at the Tennessee cabin with Grandma Brenda and Grandpa Jeff. Rowan got a chance to meet more cousins and a great aunt and uncle. She also met her great grandma Lillie as well. I think she liked the Tennessee winter temps too, cause we got out for a nice walk on the property.

I've added the Christmas pictures to the December album on the Picasa site. I've also added all the cabin pictures in the new January album.

Below you'll find a great video of Rowan giggling with Grandpa Jeff. If you can't see the video on the email subscriptions, click the link here for the blog's main page. It's pretty good, but I'm biased!
