Hello all. I think winter is making it's way into Indiana this weekend. Read on the Chicago Tribune that this weekend will be the coldest in 8 months! The leaves that have fallen this week will be frozen to the ground tomorrow morning...nice. My blower isn't that strong! I'm going to have to rake...great.
Rowan's doing great! She's getting so strong now holding up her head and looking around. She loves to watch hoops with me. Pacers so far and her first IU game on the tube Saturday night. For anyone interested, I have 2 season tickets this year. I won't be able to attend some games: tickets are $30/each. Good seats too, in the main level.
Speaking of IU basketball, this team will get better and better as the year goes along. You will know names like Williams, Storey, Dumes, Pritchard, and Jones by the end of the year. Assembly Hall will still remain a very tough place to play as a visitor. Northwestern State on Saturday night followed by IUPUI on Tuesday. Then the boys head to the Maui Invitational over Thanksgiving week. Great recruiting class signed by Crean this week too. 6 new Hoosiers rank the haul in the top 5 in the nation. Thank God I don't have to talk about IU football anymore! Like Rowan's say, "It's Hoops Season!" [IUHoosiers.com]
It's Cowboy Week in Washington, DC. Big game on Sunday night for the Redskins. Time to step up and take command of 2nd place in the NFC East (Giants are on the horizon). Got a new CB last week in DeAngelo Hall. I'm sure he'll be covering TO some on Sunday night. Didn't know that changing numbers around was so lucrative! Hall had to pay for his #23 that he likes to wear. [Washington Post]
Some changes to the Cubs for next season. Can't say I'm surprised, but Kerry Wood will no longer be a Cub. They're moving in another direction at the back of the bullpen. Read: cheaper and less years in the contract. I can only hope that the Cubs mimic a real winner in the Red Sox and keep ticket prices the same. Something tells me that's pie in the sky thinking. [Chicago Tribune & Boston.com]
Got out to see another good flick this past week: Role Models. Some really funny stuff! The language was pretty salty, but the story was a good one and we enjoyed it. Check on the main page for the reviews on several movies we've seen over the last few weeks, plus a few guest reviews. The new James Bond movie makes it's debut this weekend: Quantum of Solace. It's getting trashed by professional critics (35% fresh) but fans seem to enjoy it (71% fresh overall). Something tells me the pros were expecting something they didn't get and the fans just want to see Bond, James Bond. My buddy David Hill was at the midnight show Thursday night. I think he loved it!
What else is coming out this holiday season? Here's a nice link to a list of movies making their way to the cineplex over the next few months. Lots of good ones in there, which are we going to see? For next year, this new Pixar trailer shows another classic may be coming. [NY Times & New York Magazine]
After the election, I think the media had an influx of new and exciting non-political stories. There's a lot more to link to this week than in the past few weeks. Take your time, plenty to read and all quite interesting!
This week's News Quiz. [Chicago Tribune]
HBO needed to do something! I got HBO for Sopranos and Sex and the City. I stuck with it for Deadwood and Six Feet Under. It's been pretty paltry since, save for Entourage. Looks like that might be changing soon. [LA Times]
I blogged on this story several week's back. Big Sugar is making way for more conservation efforts in Everglades National Park. Seems there was a breakthrough this past week and all parties are quite pleased. [National Park Service & Miami Herald]
Hard to believe, but Iceland and her economy are in much worse shape than us. [NY Times]
Couple of nice 'green' stories. Researchers at two universities made a small step forward in nanogenerator technology and the southern California ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are going to start using hybrid tugboats. The amount of energy those boats use is incredible! [Atlanta Journal Constitution & LA Times]
The 50 worst cars of all time! From 1899 to the present. The ones during my lifetime are fun to look at cause I can remember them. See if you can remember how bad some of these cars really were. The author's witty commentary helps tremendously. I laughed out loud a few times. [Time.com]
An ambulance you can 'hear' through you car. Crazy. [Atlanta Journal Constitution]
President-elect Obama's family got some new names this week. The other president's are fun to read as well. Also, some cool perks for being the prez are in store. [Chicago Tribune]
On Veteran's Day, Dave sent me and Paul a very cool link for Medal of Honor recipients. I got lost in this site reading about these soldiers amazing sacrifices. Thanks Depune. [Department of Veterans Affairs & HomeofHeroes.com]
Like mom always said, "Eat your breakfast!" Even if it's cold pizza. [Washington Post]
The reigning World's Ugliest Dog passed away this past week. Definitely one ugly dog. [Atlanta Journal Constitution]
Are you getting less spam emails this week? There could be an interesting reason for that. [Washington Post]
Bowled over by Tupperware. Interesting story of how Tupperware became the house party for women in the 50's. [Miami Herald]
 Have a great weekend!
