Friday September 12th

We've had a great week! Rowan went in for a weight check on Wednesday and she's up to 7 pounds 11 ounces. It will be very soon that we can check out those new g diapers we got and see how they work. Huggies are nice, but that landfill isn't getting any smaller!

Rowan's taken to the crib no problem and you saw the photos of bath time. We're moving right along here! She's been out taking walks with mom and Butsu too. As you see, she's sleeping through them, but taking them nonetheless!

Christian called last night and is getting out of the way of Hurricane Ike. At least out of the center of Houston, which is under sea level (nice planning!). Ike probably won't reach Cat 4 or 5 status, but it will pack enough of a punch. Government groups have told people in Galveston to get out. Only 20 feet above sea level, Ike could bring in a storm surge higher than 25 feet. What's going to be left?!?
The city of Galveston has been in this situation before. From that link, Ike's path looks very similar.

Ike is actually larger than Katrina was in diameter. If it's real bad, he'll be retired. Although Houston will get the direct shot, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi are all dealing rising water issues. Ike's moving the Cubbies around this weekend. Which might not be a bad thing. I think Lee and Ramirez need a few days off to collect themselves. Their hitting has been pretty weak lately. You can keep track of Ike at his great hurricane site.

Movie's have taken a back seat for us. The live action we have at home is much more fun! It also doesn't hurt that the last couple of weekends have been total duds at the box office. When a movie that's 9% fresh gets the #1 spot, that can't be good. Our next foray might not be until the new Bond movie (or Beverly Hills Chihuahua!). Here's a couple of updates on some great comic book movie sequels from this summer: Iron Man and Batman. Good stuff! [Rotten Tomatoes & IMDb.com & CHUD.com & MTV.com]

TV News from Mediaweek:
Lost in 2.0, an enhanced version of the hit ABC series, will launch on cable net G4 with the two-hour pilot on Monday, Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. ET. Airing weeknights at 9 p.m. ET beginning on Monday, Sept. 15, Lost in 2.0 will feature character profiles, expert commentary from the show's creators, trivia, a Lost poll, Lost forums and a live Lost chat. Also, Michael Phelps will host the season premier of Saturday Night Live this weekend. Should be pretty good. Wanna bet Tina Fey's back as Sarah Palin? You can skip Lil Wayne, I'm sure.

Exactly how old is your dog (or cat)? It's not as simple as multiplying by 7. [Antech Diagnostics]

Cool fountain in Japan. Thanks for the link dad! [Dvorak Uncensored]

Old cell phones aren't just for throwing in the junk drawer. Recycle. [Chicago Tribune]

Ever heard of Salvia divinorum, a natural LSD? It's an herb, has lots of potential medicinal purposes but can also take you for a spin. [NY Times or Wikipedia]

Have a great weekend!
