Hello! We're still awaiting Rowan's arrival. Brooke is doing well, and from the looks of her belly Rowan is going to be a big one! If the belly button is any indication of a baby being 'done', than Rowan should be ready.
My random thoughts on the Olympics so far...
1. Bob Costas, what happened to your hair? Either that's a rug or one of the worst dye jobs I've ever seen. Forget the fact that style wouldn't look good on a 12 year old boy. (thanks to Christian for that last part) Chris Collinsworth, stick to football. What a cheese ball.
2. Synchronized diving is the worst dreck in the history of the Olympics. Then you put it on your first hour of prime time coverage? Three days in a row? Huh? The US didn't even medal! Show us the dude winning shooting gold, or the woman who won cycling gold. NBC had 48 hours of the road race this weekend, US didn't even finish in the top 20. Show me some judo! Horse riding! Weightlifting! Something! Enough with the synchro diving....that's all I'm asking. (by the way, if you read this on Thursday, I know there was more of this stuff on Wednesday night.)
3. Swimming: 18 medals so far. Wow, that's some impressive stuff from the American team. Especially the men's 4x100 freestyle comeback on Monday night. Those Frenchies need to learn that if you talk smack you need to back it up! Plus, I love the world records being broken. That stuff's supposed to happen at the Olympics. Who'd care if they did it in Stuttgart at the European Classic! Right?
4. Always liked Mark Spitz cause he was an IU Hoosier, but I think his record of 7 golds in one Olympics is going to fall. Phelps is amazing and so much fun to watch. More Michael Phelps, I'm all for it. (less Chris Collinsworth!)
5. China. Beautiful country, which we're not even seeing much of, but way messed up politics, which we're not even hearing the half of. Read up on your Mao, that guy really got these people whacked out, though it has to be better than it was in the 60's and 70's when they were melting silverware to beat the UK in steel production. True story. This is the book I read on Mao's life after my trip to China in 1996.
6. Gymnastics. Why did the women take injured athletes over? Then when we get some bad injury luck at the Games, we're down a woman. The men did the right thing by bowing out and having healthy alternates compete. It worked out into a Bronze Medal. Did you see those high bar routines on Monday night? The one guy looked like Spiderman and the next guy was Superman. Incredible!
7. Weekend viewings...we watched some incredible women's weightlifting this weekend. 100 lb women lifting 2-1/2 times their body weight. Also, the US women's sweep of the saber medals was fun to watch as well. That's the kind of Olympic sports that we need to see! Crazy every four years stuff...not synchro diving! OK, I'm done.
Finished reading Watchmen last night (spoiler alert on that link!). Now I really want to see the movie! It's one crazy story, and took me a while to finish it. I'm glad I did. I've found myself thinking about it from time to time today...must be a good read if you can't forget about it the next day!
