Today in History: A doomsday cult released sarin nerve gas in five Tokyo subway stations, killing 12 people and injuring more than 5,500. [Dallas Morning News] Here's the Wikipedia link for the attack.
Another one from my Japan days. Man, some crazy stuff happened when I was over there. In February we had the Kobe earthquake anniversary and today is the sarin gas attack anniversary. Three days after the attack, my buddy George and I went through the Kasumigaseki subway station on our way to the airport. We were flying to Thailand for a nice 10 day vacation. At the time, I didn't think anything of it. It was how you got around to do what you were going to do. But on my trip back for Simon's wedding this last November, they are STILL looking for 3 of the bastards that did this.
From this day in 1995 till I left in July of 1996, there were posters of the 8 people they were searching for on the most wanted list for this attack. As the year went along, I remember them crossing off several names as they got picked up. Yet, 13 years later there's still 3 they need to get.
I loved my time in Japan, and this is one day I will never forget.
