Friday May 23rd - 3 Day Weekend Edition!

Ah, three day weekends. It's about time for one. Hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day. Enjoy THE race! Might be time for another visit to the theaters with the new Indiana Jones movie coming out. I'm finding it hard to believe that the last Indiana Jones movie was made when I was in high school. I'm getting old, kinda like how Harrison Ford looks in the previews. I've seen some mixed reviews, but Rotten Tomatoes has it at 78% fresh this morning.

This week's News Quiz. Write your score in the comments... [Chicago Tribune]

Instant replay in baseball. If anyone saw the homer that ARod hit this week that was ruled a double, or the homer Carlos Delgado his last weekend that was ruled a foul ball, then you have to believe it's time for instant replay in baseball, if only to get the homers right! When these errors cost a team a championship, it will be too late. [Chicago Tribune]

Smashing Pumpkins are 20 years old? Damn, that makes me old, again. Anniversary tour later this summer. I think Rowan's ready to RAWK! [Chicago Tribune]

Today in History: Bank robbers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were shot to death in a police ambush as they were driving a stolen car in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. NY Times front page from that day. Wikipedia on these two rascals.

Couple of interesting McDonald's related articles in the Trib today. Seems coffee sales are a bit slow. Haven't seen any McD's around here selling coffee, at least the specialty kind. Also, good news on their fries! No more trans-fat in the McD's fries. The best part of McDonald's is the fries. Hope they taste similar to what I'm used to. [Chicago Tribune]

Halway through the Supreme Court season, there's only been one decision that came down 5-4. Seems the election and maybe a more seasoned Chief Justice are taking the rancor out of last year's court where 33% of all decisions came down to 5-4 decisions. [NY Times]

Something for the bacteriophobiacs to ponder...6 tribes of bacteria that live on the human body. An interesting line from the article: The bacterial cells also outnumber human cells by 10 to 1, meaning that if cells could vote, people would be a minority in their own body. In an election year, no less! [NY Times]

This guy hid in his own house for over 13 months to avoid the sectarian bloodshed in Baghdad. [LA Times]

Sounds like another potentially active Hurricane Season this year, which begins June 1. [Atlanta Journal Constitution]

Guitar Hero's putting the band back together. [Mediaweek]
