Movie night for Spydey and the Mrs. We're seeing the new release, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Our review will be up sometime this weekend, but it sounds like a good one...85% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. We are looking forward to this and some caramel popcorn. It is awesome at Carmike.
Saw on the news this week the riots in Haiti over the skyrocketing price of staple foods such as rice. Australian rice production is down 98% since the start of a devastating 6 year drought. They're now using many of the lands and water rights for wine production! Do you like your Yellow Tail wine? [NY Times]
Not to make light of the rice story, but it seems beer prices are heading up too due to the lack of hops. [LA Times]
Our next big movie outing will be in two week. Iron Man May 2nd, we're there. Anyone else is free to join in. Travis is making the trip from Warsaw as we continue our comic book movie adventure. It's got to be the 4th one by now, right Trav? [LA Times]
An earthquake in Illinois? We felt it this morning in Fort Wayne, over 450 miles away! Brooke definitely felt something, but I didn't realize what it was until I got to work and saw the news. 5.4 temblor...wow. [Journal Gazette and USGS.com]
And how's this for coincidence? Today in History: on April 18, 1906, a major earthquake struck San Francisco and set off raging fires. More than 3,000 people died. [AP]
My dad has a great story about the 1968 quake they are mentioning in the articles about today's quake:
"They are saying that last one was in 1968. I guess maybe the size is the same. Anyway in 1968 I was sitting at the airport in St Louis with my dad as he had never been on a jet plane and I set up a trip to St Louis to fly there from Indy for the weekend. We went to a St. Louis Cardinals / Pittsburgh Steeler game on Sunday. Anyway while we were in the airport having lunch, the entire building and glass windows shook. I thought that maybe a plane crashed. Turned out to be the earthquake. It was interesting to read the comments of the people that were up in the arch when that hit."
Pretty cool!
Been a while since I got one of these back in there...this week's news quiz (8/10 for me!). [Chicago Tribune]
